Like many writers and researchers, I sometimes give paid speeches and provide consulting services to businesses, non-profits, universities, and other institutions. Such activities help me do a number of things. For one, they help foster public debate and help the spread of ideas. The activities are also engaging, interesting, and help me supplement my income.
Nevertheless, the activities could create a conflict of interest or the appearance of a conflict of interest with my other work, and I wanted to publicly list all the non-journalism, non-academic organizations that I have received money from over the past five years. First off, I'm a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, a Washington D.C.-based think tank. But I've also done consulting work or given paid lectures at other institutions. They include the Corcoran Museum of Art, the Center for Public Education, Learning Point Associates, the Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Rochester, the US Chamber of Commerce, Education Sector, Strong American Schools, the Scarsdale Public Library, the Progressive Policy Institute, the Vero Museum of Art, and the New America Foundation.
